As the Regulator The NMC maintains a register of all nurses, midwives and specialist community public health nurses eligible to practise within the UK.
The NMC also reviews standards for the education, training, conduct and performance of such registered professionals. As a part of this role the NMC investigates allegations of impaired fitness to practise (i.e. where these standards are not met).
